Task: Informatics Mail Hub (evaluation)

This report is an evaluation of what would be required to provide an Informatics mailhub (ie, mail host providing user mailboxes).

Transfer of user mail addresses to the form user@informatics.ed.ac.uk
- Largely a one-off task, but likely to be tricky. Estimate two-three days work.
IMAP server only. No POP.
Kerberos (comes with Washington IMAP)
SSL
Use mbx mailbox format
procmail - use EUCS web interface to procmail on server
User Agents - As NO NFS - many users will have to change their user agents. We will support:
- Webmail Interface - use IMP as used by EUCS.
- Pine
- Netscape
- Possibly other alternatives if time permits.
Mailing List manager - stick with mailman.

Mail host to be specified.
Disk mirroring to be used for short term backups
Longer Term backup arrangements still to be sorted out.

Could be started at any time. Mailhub up and running by end May. Migration of user addresses between July-September.
