General

1) Changes to PhD (2nd year and above) email (PhDs)

Postgraduates who still have their old-style login names on cogsci,
dai and dcs domains (eg freda@cogsci) will have to change to using
their SMS accounts. We will no longer deliver mail into mailboxes on
Informatics machines. Your email will be redirected to your SMS
account.

This change will take effect from the end of July. It is essential
that all affected users make sure that they can access their SMS
account.

NB If you have forgotten or do not know your SMS password,
Informatics computing support staff *cannot* request new
passwords. You have to do that yourselves.

See the Informatics SMS pages for further info.
http://www.informatics.ed.ac.uk/systems/email/smsinf.html

Once these changes have been made there will be no student mailboxes on
any Informatics machines.

2) SMS account name change (All)

This is not strictly a DICE issue but in case you are not aware of it
EUCS are changing the format of student account names, existing and
new ones.

These were of the form <matric>@sms but from 23rd July will be
prefixed with an 's'. The divisional database will continue to use
the friendly form of names by default and existing <matric> addresses
will be redirected automatically.

3) DICE test login servers (All)

There will be one central multi-user server with remote access and at
least one local public machine at each site so that users can test out
DICE functionality. We expect these to be available very soon (this
week!) and interested users will be advised how to get
account/password details.
